Castle of Montpoupon
Presentation
Admission: €11 (regular price €12)
Originally a medieval fortified castle, the Château de Montpoupon was transformed into a Renaissance residence in the 15th century. The La Motte Saint-Pierre family, who have owned the property since 1857, modernized the château in the 1920s to turn it into a comfortable residence. The site offers a glimpse into the owners’ family life through a self-guided, audio-guided tour of the fully furnished château, from the kitchens to the dining room and the private apartments. On site, explore the Musée du Veneur and its 30 rooms dedicated to the craftsmanship of artisans devoted to the art of the hound hunt: stables, saddleries, the Maison Deyrolle, the Hermès Room, and more…
Outside, the “forest trail” uses educational displays to introduce visitors to the world of local flora and fauna: animal tracks and life-size silhouettes, numerous tree species presented with their bark and leaves… a combination sure to delight young and old alike!
For children, a guided tour is available with the activity booklet “Solange Investigates at Montpoupon.”
